Justin Bieber nabs MVP award at NBA all-star game
Bieber snags MVP award at NBA all-star game 2011 after scoring eight points with four assists, two rebounds and an impressive three-point shot for the West Team.
Canadian teen sensation, Justin Bieber may have left the Staples Center empty-handed of Grammy statue last week, but this week, Never Say Never hitmaker went home a winner. Justin Bieber was named the Most Valuable Player in the NBA-All-Star celebrity game Friday night, even if the teen singer played for the losing team.
His trophy came from scoring eight points, with four assists and two rebounds for the West Team, said Beth Harris of The Associated Press. This did not stop the organizers despite the loss of Bieber’s team, the West team at 54-49 to the East at the annual celebrity game held at Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday, February 18, 2011.
Bieber was up against Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen who led the East team, coached by Magic Johnson. East team had 17 points in the game. Pippen’s block of Bieber at the third quarter is considered as one of the defensive highlights of the game.
Though vertically challenged Justin might have been with his nemeses in court, as he was seen scampering and jumping up and down the court with his ‘shaggy’ hair bouncing with his every move, but this did not stop the ‘tween’ fans, said the AP, from ‘shrieking’ at the sight of his every move.
“He has the softest hair,” the AP quoted former Los Angeles Laker Rick Fox as marveling over Bieber’s hair, while patting his West teammate on the head during the game.
The AP described the teen pop sensation pulling up his shorts most of the game, as it fell below his knee. He was seen in court doing the routines as he tried, albeit failed, to touch his toes as part of his pre-game stretching.
But during the game, he wowed the audience and his fans with his ‘slick moves’: dribbling behind his back, driving and dishing to taller teammates. Though admitting he was running like a rabbit inside the court, the teen sensation was able to hit a 3-pointer. Much to the delight of his shrieking tween fans.
“I’m just running back and forth,” Bieber said in an in-game interview, noted AP.
He added, “I’m controlling this whole team. I’m just kidding.”
Another highlight of the game was the 3-pointer Bieber missed that, according to AP, could have tied the singer’s West team with East team with 30 seconds to go.
The singer’s teammates include Zac Levi (Chuck), R&B singer, Trey Songz, rapper Romeo Miller and Rob Kardashian.
