K-Pop Update 2017: Jaden Smith announces K-Pop single plans on Twitter, GOT7’s Youngjae hospitalised, cancels fan meet in Australia
Jaden Smith has recently announced on Twitter that he'll be releasing a K-Pop single in 2017. He said that it will likely be out in the next four months. Meanwhile, Youngjae of the South Korean boy group GOT7 has cancelled his fan meet in Australia because he was hospitalised for a back injury. Read on for the latest K-Pop update.
Jaden Smith in K Pop?
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's son is eyeing the Korean pop industry after dipping his toes in the US rap scene. "And Yes I Will Be Dropping A K Pop Single In The Next 4 Months," Smith tweeted. He has previously released the mixtape titled "The Cool Cafe: Cool Tape Vol. 1" on Oct. 1, 2012, followed by the sequel CTV2 on Nov. 18, 2014. Aside from this, he also released "This Is The Album," a three-track collaborative extended play (EP) recording with producer Daniel D'artiste in February 2015. Plus, a track titled "Fallen" was debuted in 2016.
Smith has an upcoming album in the works and it's called "SYRE." It's unclear whether the Korean pop single will be part of it. It's not the first time that a US artist has expressed interest in dabbling in the massively popular K-pop industry. Some artists like Missy Elliot, Kanye West, Diplo, will.i.am and Skrillex have even collaborated with popular Korean singers including Baauer, JYJ and 2NE1 member, CL.
Reactions on Twitter about Smith's K-Pop single announcement:
"Gonna be like EXP but more expensive," @kirbybts wrote in the comments section of Smith's tweet.
"Really how long did you train for when's your debut what company are you under is it under the big 3?" @infirejoonie asked.
Youngjae GOT7 hospitalised
In other Korean pop news, GOT7's Choi Youngjae was hospitalised due to a back injury, Korea Boo reported. Because of this, he won't be able to attend the GOT7 GLOBAL FANMEET IN AUSTRALIA 2017 from April 20-24 with Got7 members Yugyeom, Jackson, Jinyoung, Mark, JB and BamBam.
"Youngjae is currently being treated for his back injury and recovering in the hospital," JYP Entertainment said in a statement. "Considering his health status, it is difficult for him to participate in the Australia fan meetings, and therefore decided not to attend."
"We sincerely apologize to all of the fans who have been highly anticipating [the fan meetings]. Youngjae’s recovery is now the top priority. Thank you," JYP Entertainment added.
Unfortunately, this is the third time that Youngjae has cancelled activities related to GOT7 because of health issues. He cancelled a promotion with the band in October 2016 and was unable to perform in July 2016 during a Dallas show with the group as part of their US tour. His fans are naturally concerned about his wellbeing and have taken to Twitter to express their concern with the hashtag #GetWellSoonYoungjae.
