Kate Middleton 'Dresses Quite Uneventfully' And Is Told To Do So, Says Canadian Author, Faces Backlash [VIDEO]
Kate Middleton's dressing style has always been under strong media scrutiny but this time it has landed Canadian writer Margaret Atwood in an embarrassing situation. The 75-year-old received criticism from the loyal fans of the Duchess after saying that Kate "dresses quite uneventfully." The veteran writer said that Kate is advised to dress in a particular way and her style is no where close to late Princess Diana's fashion sense.
"I think she's watching her back. I think she probably has people who pretty much tell her what is appropriate for her to wear," Atwood said at a discussion on Fashion and Fiction at London's Victoria and Albert Museum on March 13, People magazine writes. Her comments on the stylish Duchess did not go well with the royal fans. The “Handmaid's Tale” author also said that Kate has not “become the fashion plate that [Princess] Diana was.”
Atwood admitted to the audience that she does not spend enough time looking at Kate's fashionable wardrobe as she is “too old" for following current fashion. Atwood's comments were captured in a video, which can be seen below. The writer talked to British journalist Rosie Goldsmith at the event and even asked her to comment on Kate's dressing sense. Goldsmith replied with a diplomatic, “No comments” answer.
The author received backlash on Twitter from royal fans who accused her of “slamming” the Duchess. Atwood then took to Twitter saying that the fan's reactions are “idiotic.” She even asked the royal fans how are her comments on the Duchess can be considered a "slam.” The Canadian author also wrote a mock news story about the entire Kate Middleton saga, which was published in the Globe and Mail.
Despite getting critisised for her dressing senses, Kate is considered a fashion icon by many fashion magazines. The Duchess, who is pregnant with her second child, is often praised for her feminine maternity style. Kate is currently out of public eye and enjoying her maternity leave. She is due to give birth to her second child later this month.
