Kate Middleton ‘had a good time’ and overstayed during ‘Downtown Abbey’ set visit; cast members starstruck
Kate Middleton is a big “Downtown Abbey” fan, and she visited the cast members last March, where she overstayed at the set and had a “good time,” according to a report.
The Duchess of Cambridge was still pregnant with Princess Charlotte when she went to visit the “Downtown Abbey” set, E! News reported. The cast members of the hit series were very honoured with the visit and described Princess Kate as “very charming, according to “Downtown Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes.
Actress Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith, also told E! during the BAFTA-LA's pre-Emmys Tea Party at the SLS Hotel on Saturday, Sept. 19, that the cast became “quite shy” and admitted that they “weren't sure what to expect.” Apart from that, Carmichael also described Prince William’s wife as “lovely” and “so normal.” She explained, "She's so normal. I know everyone says that but she really does try to make everyone feel at ease.”
Carmichael even shared that the cast members’ conversation with Princess Kate was “one of those weird ones” since they “all lost [their] minds” during the royal visit. The actress said, "We started talking to her about the catering—I'm sure things she found really boring but we all sort of lost it because we were panicked and starstruck.”
Lesley Nicol, who plays Mrs. Patmore in “Downtown Abbey,” also mentioned that her chat with the Duchess of Cambridge was over "chocolate," while Jim Carter, who plays Mr. Carson, remarked on how the royal mother of two was “a big fan of the show” and that she had a “good time” during her visit.
Carter added, “I don't think she'd been on a film set before or a TV set so she was intrigued by how different it looked on the screen and in reality. She overstayed. She stayed long. She was having such a good time."
Meawhile, Prince William and Princess Kate attended last Friday’s 2015 Rugby World Cup opening ceremony, where the two reportedly couldn’t keep their eyes off each other, according to Entertainment Tonight.
The royal couple both wore blue; the Duke of Cambridge was in a dark blue suit while Duchess Catherine wore a bright blue Reiss coat. Prince William and Princess Kate were even photographed as they lovingly gazed at each other’s eyes. The two were also seen laughing and smiling all throughout the event.
This is the second major royal appearance that Duchess Catherine made after giving birth to Princess Charlotte. The royal mother of two also visited students at the Anna Freud Centre in London on Thursday, Sept. 18.
