Fans of Australian television comedy “Kath and Kim” can now own a piece of its history. The townhouse “Chateau Kath,” where the award-winning show was filmed is now up for sale. The satirical comedy is set in Fountain Lakes, a fictional suburb of Melbourne, Victoria.

The house is in Patterson Lakes area, which is 35 km southeast of Melbourne. The double storey house features four bedrooms, a dining room, lounge area, open plan kitchen and family area, Stuff.co.nz reports.

Interestingly, the house from “Kath & Kim” has a secret that fans may not be aware of. The backside of the property opens to a canal with a private jetty. However, the view of the jetty was screened by a fence to give the house a more suburban feel, Herald Sun reports.

ABC’s art department staff had to work for four days to set up the house for “Kath & Kim.” They replaced the owners’ antique furniture with feminine flounces and lots of family pictures. Also, after the series was filmed, it took another four days to restore the house back to its original state.

According to Domain.com.au, the price of a median house with four bedrooms in Patterson Lake area is around AU$ 750,000. The Domain Group also stated that if people are looking for the “effluent” lifestyle they can expect to pay well above the price if the property’s sales history is anything to go by. In 2011, the house sold for AU$1.23 million and again it sold at a whopping AU$1.3 million in 2014.

The floorplan of the house has not been changed, but a few cosmetic makeovers have taken place over the years. The ABC comedy “Kath & Kim” has become synonymous with phrases such as “ Look at moy”(look at me)—used by Kath to command attention during arguments, “It’s noice, different and unusual” -- used by Kath (Jane Turner), Kim (Gina Riley) and Sharon (Magda Szubanski) to express approval or agreement.

“Kath & Kim” Season 1 premiered on ABC in May 2002. It is the story of a mother her daughter and boyfriend set in Australia. The show created by Gina Riley and Jane Turner has become a pop culture phenomenon, and is a success with audiences nationwide. It garnered critical acclaim and won two Logie Awards.
