Although the official release date is tipped for December, Microsoft’s entry-level Lumia 550 is yet to hit the store shelves in Australia. For the Lumia 550 powered by Windows 10 Mobile, the official website still says “Coming Soon.”

However, the premium Lumia 950 along with its bigger sibling Lumia 950XL can be pre-ordered now. In Australia, the unlocked Lumia 950 can be pre-ordered from the Microsoft Store at AU$999 whereas the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL is listed with a price tag of AU$1,129.

The company is yet to announce the Australian pricing of the smartphone. According to CNET, the 8GB variant of the Lumia 550 will cost US$139 (AU$195) .

Spec-wise, the 4G LTE-enabled device sports a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. The high-definition display comes with a pixel density of 315 pixels per inch. With the Snapdragon 210 SoC and backed by 1GB of RAM, Microsoft claims that "multitasking is super smooth across all of your open apps."

Microsoft Lumia 550 is the first ever budget handset announced by the company running the latest Windows 10 operating system. However, it is worth mentioning that the phone will come with a Continuum support. The OS will feature Cortana and is integrated with video chatting and voice calling via Skype like other Windows 10 devices.

The 8GB native storage is supported by a microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 200GB. The performance will be further boasted by an ultra low-power Glance Screen with an effective Battery Saver mode. The company says that the 2100 mAh battery is good enough for taking up calls throughout the day.

As far as the camera specs goes, the device is equipped with a 5MP auto-focus rear camera that can shoot 720p video. The main camera also features f/2.4 aperture and LED flash. This is paired with a 2MP front-facing shooter.
