Killer Notification Features for iPhone 5S, Low-Cost iPhone, iPhone 6 Hinted by New Apple Patent?
It is possible that the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 to come out for a late 2013 release date will include new and exciting notification features, a new report said.
Pointing to a new patent application titled 'Electronic Devices with Sidewall Displays' and published recently by World Intellectual Property Organisation, Unwired View reported that Apple will likely include fresh notification mechanisms for the upcoming iPhone models.
When applied to an iOS smartphone, the Apple invention will provide users with effective notification of unread messages or missed phone calls without pressing any buttons or turning on the phone's screen display.
"The idea is to split the iPhone's flexible display into two parts - the main front touch screen, and control area for a sidewall, after a bend," the same report said.
Note that the new notification capability is being developed with the unbreakable that was covered by earlier blog reports.
In introducing the new technology, Apple will likely eliminate the need for a physical volume rocker and replace it with a touch control that be configured to pull up the iPhone's camera and music player apps.
The new approach will also allot "some additional screen real estate to display messages and other info without turning on the main display," the Unwired View report said.
To date, Apple has yet to explore such smartphone capabilities, which are already offered by many Android devices. In some device models and brands, such notification menu comes with options to customise.
For instance, the LED light being flash can be altered to specific colour in order to distinguish the notification. A flashing red would connote a missed phone call while a blinking green would signify messages that are waiting to be attended.
Apple appears to be working double-time in developing new notification features for its devices. In an earlier patent, the tech giant is thought to equip the iPad and the iPad Mini 2 with new vibrate features.
However, like in most patent applications, there is no assurance that Apple will be able to include the new features to the upcoming iPhone 5S, its low-cost edition and the iPhone 6, which new reports said will have a later release date this year due to production challenges.
