Kim Kardashian wanted to eat her own placenta. The new mum told her family during dinner that she was planning to have her placenta cooked so she could eat it. And that was all captured on tape.

Kim, who gave birth to her and Kanye West’s daughter North on June 15, was still pregnant when her reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” filmed the strange family conversation.

She asked their chef Sharone if he knew how to cook a placenta because she heard that she could eat it. Sharone then confirmed that people could indeed eat the human organ; his own wife even ate hers.

He added that placenta was known to be good for post-partum and for menopause.

“There’s cookbook of different ways you have to cook it,” Kim supplied, adding that she “definitely” wanted to eat her placenta.

The subject seemed to gross out the rest of the family, especially Kim’s mother Kris Jenner, whom her sister Khloe said could also share eating Kim’s placenta.

“This is such a beautiful dinner. I just lost my appetite,” Kris said. “That is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever heard.”

Bruce Jenner, Kris’ husband and Kim’s stepfather, was quiet during the conversation, but it was clear from his reaction that he wasn’t finding the topic appetising as well.

Only Kourtney was supportive of Kim’s placenta-eating idea.

“I want to have a third child just to eat the placenta,” the mother of two declared.

It’s unclear if Kim did really eat her own placenta as she had planned to.

It might seem gross for some, but mothers eating their own placenta aren’t really rare. A growing number of women are said to be doing the practice in the U.S.

The practice, called placentophagy, is believed to have medical benefits for mothers. According to the survey conducted by UNLV medical anthropologist Daniel Benyshek and doctoral student of anthropology Sharon Young, mothers who consumed their own placenta believed that it had helped them with the treatment of their post-partum symptoms, aided in increased lactation, and had put them in a better mood.

The placenta can be eaten raw or cooked, with some women prefer it taken in capsule form.

Meanwhile, Kanye has shown his vulnerable side on Kris’ eponymous talk show “Kris.”

In a preview for the show airing Friday in the U.S., the singer opened up about his love for his baby mama and his new daughter.

“After I lost my mother, there were times I felt like I would put my life at risk. I felt sometimes I didn’t have something to live for,” he said, referring to his mum Donda West, who died in 2007 of complications from cosmetic surgery.

“Now I have two really special people to live for, a whole family to live for. A whole world to live for.”
