In a bid to eat a large slice of the tablet pie, particularly the share of Apple's iPad, Amazon kept on discounting their Kindle Fire tablet the past few weeks. On Thursday, Amazon cut anew the price of its refurbished Kindle Fire 8.9-inch model.

Under its Goldbox Deal of the Day, the 16-gigabyte 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD model is 25 per cent cheaper at $179 or by $90. The 32-GB model is down to $199, less $70 for the refurbished model. The HD 8.9 with 4G was down to $250. The cut price was just for one day.

In March, Amazon cut the price of the 16GB 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD to $269 from $299, while it reduced the price of the new model in late July to $215.

The price cuts are to move the stocks off the shelves to give room to new Kindle Fire models expected to be available by fall. Speculations say that the next-gen Kindle Fire would likely have Snapdragon 800 processors for the HD model and resolutions of 2560x1600 for the 8.9-ince next-gen model.
