Is Kym Valentine Returning to 'Neighbours' after Reaching Settlement with Sex and Discrimination Lawsuit? [VIDEO]
Kym Valentine’s return to “Neighbours” has remained unclear and no official announcement from the Australian actress and the show’s producers has been made after the soap opera star reached settlement with sex and discrimination lawsuit.
Valentine filed charges against “Neighbours” producer, Fremantle Media for lost wages since she has not been invited to the show that made her a household name.
The 36 -year old actress appeared in 1000 episodes as she starred on the long-running soap opera as Libby Kennedy from 1994 to 2011, according to Ninemsn Au.
Hollywood.com noted that Valentine only took a break from the show in 2004 following the birth of her daughter, but joined the show again in 2007. She stayed for another four years until she went on indefinite leave in 2011. The star was reported to have stayed in a private hospital for two years since she left the show. Stuff.co.nz said she went on sick leave after contracting pneumonia. The Australian noted that she suffered from exhaustion, preventing Valentine from working again.
Valentine has been vocal about her wish to return on the show. The actress took to social media and rally for support in her hopes to return to the show.
"If I was wanted, the show's producers would ask me if I was available," Valentine was quoted as tweeting last month by The Australian, before adding, “But who they want back can be who you guys want back!"
"I posted a tweet asking if I should return to Neighbours but overnight the tweet and all replies have been deleted!" Valentine tweeted in July 2013, according to a separate report by Ninemsn Au.
The news outlet also quoted Valentine as saying, “Once a Kennedy always a Kennedy," on October 14.
When all calls fell on deaf ears, Valentine took legal actions, claiming “sex and disability discrimination,” according to The Australian.
She accused the “Neighbours” officials, including its production company FreemantleMedia Australia, legal director Steven Rosser and former producers Susan Bower and Neal Kingston, of “unlawful discrimination,” said Hollywood.com.
According to The Australian, the soap star alleged that the respondents “failed to provide her safe environment,” and that she was seeking compensation for “lost wages and the pain, hurt, suffering and humiliation," she had suffered in recent years.
The barrister for both the respondents and the complainant, Kate Eastman confirmed both parties agreed to a settlement but the agreement is bound by “confidentiality clauses.”
Valentine stars as Libby Kennedy on “Neighbours” which aired on three different networks since it began in 1985. It was originally aired on Seven Network, then on Network Ten from 1986 to 2010 and finally, Channel Eleven since 2011. Valentine joined the show since 1994.
