LA Noire’s Creator Next Game is the “Whore of the Orient”
Brendan McNamara's next game after his critical hit "LA Noire" will be called "Whore of the Orient."
McNamara had talked about his new project back in November which he considers to be "one of the great untold stories of the 20th century" but aside from the title no details have been forthcoming. From the title alone it looks like the new game will be set in the Chinese city of Shanghai which was called the Whore of the Orient in the early decades of the 20th century.
McNamara's Team Bondi studios shut down amidst controversial accusations from former Team Bondi employees of bad working conditions. After Team Bondi filed for a "notice of special resolution to wind up company" it sold intellectual property and assets to multimedia studio Kennedy Miller Mitchell. Many of the former staff of Team Bondi have also ended up in KMM.
"What's fascinating, though, is that Team Bondi immediately went to work on Happy Feet Two," George Miller told the Financial Review in an interview. "People can move from a game to a movie and be completely at home, because it's the same skills, process - the same game."
Miller is not only bankrolling McNamara's new game but he's also given McNamara and his team the responsibility of developing a Mad Max video game. KMM is confident that the remnants of Team Bondi will be able to pull off another hit game but with a little help from the government.
"With the government's support we can immediately go forward with two games," KMM's Doug Mitchell explained. Warner Bros. is also eager to start with a Mad Max game.
LA Noire was Team Bondi's masterpiece, an intricately manufactured game that used the groundbreaking MotionScan technology to capture actors' performances. The game was developed for Rockstar Games published of "Grand Theft Auto". LA Noire was a critical success and the first video game to premiere at a film festival in the Tribeca Film Festival in April this year. Unfortunately not even the success of LA Noire could save the developer from bankruptcy.
