Lady Gaga’s soulful rendition of the US national anthem at Super Bowl 50
It was a sight to behold as Lady Gaga belted out the US national anthem for Super Bowl 50 between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. Wearing a sparkling red suit and matching eye shadow, the 29-year-old had a more toned down appearance compared to her once famous meat dress, embellishments and leotards.
According to Sky News, the singer’s rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, sent the Internet into overdrive. This was her biggest audience till date with an estimated 190 million people watching the Super Bowl. The halftime show was performed by Coldplay and Beyonce. Bruno Mars also made an appearance.

According to media reports and fan reactions, this was surely one of Gaga’s best performances. Gaga thinks singing the national anthem was “one of the highest honours of my career.” Actress Marlee Maitlin performed the anthem in American sign language along with the six-time Grammy winner.
A flyover added to the patriotism and drama. Gaga thumped her chest and pointed towards everybody around her, as she kept pouring emotions into the anthem. Her blue fingernails, red, white and blue high-heel platforms and Gucci suit sparkled as she performed.
Right before the performance, Gaga had talked about how she always wanted to perform the US national anthem at a top sporting event since she was a child. He dream came true, “And for it to be the Super Bowl is the ultimate.”
It has been a huge year for Gaga. She won a Golden Globe Award, got an Academy Award nomination for the first time and a Grammy nomination. Although her performance in Super Bowl 50 was not very Gaga-like, she had sex on a canvas with her boyfriend Taylor Kinney for a January magazine cover and it most definitely did not involve singing.
