Leo Touches Down Sydney for ‘The Great Gatsby’
It looks like Australia will be seeing a lot of Leonardo DiCaprio in the next four months.
After arriving Sydney Monday, Aug.22 reports have it that the A-list actor is expected to stay Down Under in the next four months to film F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, “The Great Gatsby”.
The Daily Telegraph noted that after touching down Sydney airport, the actor went straight to Fox Studios at Moore Park. But he left shortly and was later seen at an exclusive eastern suburbs house.
There are separate reports that his girlfriend, “Gossip Girl” actress, Blake Lively is joining him next month.
DiCaprio who is playing the lead role for “Gastby”, Jay Gatsby arrived at Sydney International Airport Monday engrossed with his Blackberry and ignored the throng of reporters waiting for him outside the airport customs.
Appearing in jeans and trainers, The Aviator actor covered himself wearing a cap with a blue hoodie and immediately got into a 4WD waiting for him outside the airport. He certainly was not in a chatty mood!
Other stars for the film have also reportedly jetted in over the weekend. Tobey Maguire, who plays Nick Carraway arrived last week and he was joined Saturday by Carey Mulligan, who plays Daisy Buchanan. Carey’s husband, Tom Buchanan played by Joel Edgerton, another Aussie pride is expected to fly in soon. The cast also includes Isla Fisher who plays Myrtle, Tom Buchanan’s mistress.
Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the preproduction of $150 film is well underway. The Herald Sun is saying that landmarks such as the New York’s Plaza Hotel and Gatsby’s Long Island Mansion are being recreated in order to get a feel of the setting of Fitzgerald’s classic novel.
Australia is optimistic that a big part of the film will be shot in Sydney can boost the country’s tourism and put the country as one of the greatest tourist spots in the world. The state government sees it as a big feat for Luhrmann to choose Sydney as the setting of the 3D version of Great Gatsby.
So, don’t worry if Leonardo was not in a chatty mood as he touched Down Under. After all, you will see him in the next four months. Who knows, you might bump into him in nearby department stores.
