Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat is coming really soon with the latest features, new hardware technology and reasonable price. Find out the top 10 reasons why Nexus is the best alternative to popular smartphone brands such as iPhone 5S, HTC One, Galaxy S4 and Xperia Z1.

Operating System

There is no surprise that Nexus 5 will run Android 4.4 KitKat and first to demonstrated the new power of Android OS. Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to be lightweight, more stable and more efficient compared with previous Android versions.

Some of Android KitKat's upcoming features are improved battery standby time, better network coverage, palette colour scheme, more processor type support, low memory requirements and more responsive system.

Nexus 5 will get ahead than another Android phones when it comes to software update. Galaxy S4 and Note 3 owners may have to wait until the end of 2013 or early 2014 to get Android 4.4 KitKat.

Overall Design

As expected, Nexus 5 would be slim and sleek just like its predecessor - the Nexus 4. According to leaked schematics, the device features a narrower bezel, bigger camera, larger display and curved edges. Slimmer hardware components such as RAM, non-removable battery and others may be the reason why Nexus 5 is sleeker and sexier than Nexus 4.

But the most interesting fact about the leaked image is that it looks the same with previously rumoured Nexus 5 in September which was used to take pictures of the Android KitKat statue at Google headquarters.

Same Manufacturer with Nexus 4

LG is revealed to be the manufacturer behind Nexus 5 smartphone based on the leaked image of the device. Earlier this year, rumours already pointed out LG's interaction with the upcoming Nexus phone but the company didn't confirm efforts on manufacturing the next-generation Nexus.

LG G2 could have been the reason behind Google's decision to choose the same maker of Nexus 4 for the Nexus 5. Nexus 4 success and G2 impressive features probably convinced Google to take the company again for Nexus 5 instead of choosing HTC, Motorola, Samsung or Sony.

If you desire the G2 but unable to purchase because of its expensive price tag, take on the Nexus 5 since both smartphones are made by LG.

Performance Speed

Expect hardware improvements on its performance, processing and multi-tasking. Leaked document of the Nexus 5 revealed the all-new 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and micro SIM slot.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 will enable the Nexus 5 to use 4G LTE connectivity, less battery consumption and reduced heat generation. This processor is currently being used by several flagship smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z1.

Camera Technology

Nexus 5 will have 8-megapixel rear-shooting camera with MEMS technology which shoots faster than other mobile cameras.

- Nearly 7 times faster than other cameras on mobile devices

- Much smaller in size compared to other mobile cameras

- Consumes less power

- Very quick auto-focus on one moving element.

Unfortunately, the rear-camera does not feature Backside Illumination or BSI which is useful for low-light environments but of course we don't know yet how good the camera is until released. The front-facing camera shooter remains a 1.3MP on the Nexus 5.

Screen Display

Nexus 5 has 4.95-inches of screen with 1080p full HD display and In-Plane Switching or IPS technology. IPS allows you to view the display in various angles without any colour or image distortion.

In addition, the screen display of Nexus has a narrower bezel which gives more working space for both lock screen and home screens. Narrower bezel also makes viewing of images and videos larger compared to common smartphones with 5-inches display.

Wireless Technology

Expect Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, Near Field Communication (NFC) and 4G LTE on the Nexus but the new addition would be the wireless charging feature. Wireless charging is an ongoing trend among Android phones and currently featured by flagship devices such as Galaxy Note 3.

Charging your device wirelessly will require a separate accessory which you need to attach on the Nexus 5. Wireless charging accessory for the next-gen Nexus would probably be sold separately.

New Notification Light

Aside from vibration and ringtones, notification light is also a growing addition on several smartphones including Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Xperia Z and few of them, features a dedicated illumination bar such as Xperia SP.

Nexus 5 will feature a notification light to alert you of any unread messages, missed call, new emails and more. Hopefully this feature is customisable for you to change light colour depending on which alert is present.

More Battery Capacity

Nexus 4 features a non-removable 2100 mAh battery pack while Nexus 5 will boast a 2300 mAh battery. Since the difference between two isn't significant, Android 4.4 KitKat may be the reason behind its improved battery life.

Android 4.4 KitKat hints out to feature extended standby time which reserves more energy when the device is on idle. Other expected feature could be a built-in power saving mode for Android and customisable performance profiles.

Reasonable Pricing

Smartphones from Apple, HTC, Samsung and Sony are tagged with such a high price compared to Motorola and Nexus phones. Nexus 4 is currently being sold in $229 with unlocked and no-contract deal.

Nexus 5 smartphone is expected to be sold at a reasonable price and will let you enjoy features such as Qualcomm's latest CPU, huge RAM, 4G LTE connectivity, wireless charging, 5.0-inches of HD display, 8MP camera and 2300 battery right out of the box without paying that much.
