Australian actor, Liam Hemsworth has been cast for “Hunger Games” and will be joining Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence in the adaptation of the best-selling young adult books by Suzanne Collins.

Hemsworth, who has recently been rumored to reunite with ex-girlfriend and teen singer, Miley Cyrus, plays Gale Hawthorne, the long time-friend of Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence.

Lawrence was earlier hired as Katniss Everdeen and will play as the love interest of Josh Hutcherson, who was cast to play Peeta Mellark.

Hutcherson’s most recent project was the Academy Award nominated film, ‘The Kids Are All Right’ where he joined A-list actresses, Annette Bening and Julianne Moore.

Hemsworth was last seen playing Miley Cyrus's hunk boyrfriend in “The Last Song”.

According to People, shooting begins in May and the post-apocalyptic flick is scheduled in theaters on March 23, 2012.
