Liam Hemsworth talks ‘Independence Day: Insurgence,’ ‘Hunger Games’ and Miley Cyrus
Liam Hemsworth recently shared his thoughts about his two upcoming sequel sci-fi films as well as his past relationship with “Wrecking Ball” singer Miley Cyrus. He will reprise his role as Gale Hawthorne in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2” before starring in “Independence Day: Insurgence.”
In a recent interview with Men's Fitness, Hemsworth said he has been a fan of “Independence Day: Insurgence” director Roland Emmerich since the 1996 film “Independence Day.” He pointed out that it was the director who pioneered the world-ending genre.
In “Independence Day: Insurgence,” which will hit theatres on June 24, 2016, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum will reprise their roles as President Whitmore and David Levinson, respectively. According to Hemsworth, it was a lot of fun working with Goldblum.
“Celebrity Apprentice” alum Vivica A. Fox will also reprise her role as Jasmine in “Independence Day: Insurgence.” Other cast members include Maika Monroe, Joey King, William Fitchner, Vivica A. Fox and Grace Huang.
Almost six months before the release of “ Independence Day: Insurgence,” Hemsworth will reprise his role as Gale Hawthorne in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.” The third instalment of “The Hunger Games” film franchise will hit theatres on Nov. 20.
While the first two instalments were played through the eyes of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2” features the perspective of an ensemble, according to Hemsworth. He revealed that the story will revolve around not only Katniss Everdeen but also Gale Hawthorne and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson).
In between the first and second “The Hunger Games” movies, Hemsworth broke up with Cyrus. When asked about his former girlfriend during the interview, he pointed out that they were together for five years, so his feelings for her will never change.
According to Hemsworth, his relationship with Cyrus was an important part of his life, and it was not just a fling. He also described her as a free spirit and not a malicious person as she tends to be perceived by others.
Aside from Hemsworth, Lawrence and Hutcherson, “ The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2” also stars Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson and “Pitch Perfect 3” star and director Elizabeth Banks. The film will feature the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in his final role.
