Lily Allen said the entertainment industry is full of “botoxed idiots.” The British pop star opened up about retiring from the music industry after becoming disillusioned with the people in her showbiz circle.

In September 2009, a couple of months after marrying Sam Cooper, Allen announced that she would not be renewing her record contract. And although she wasn’t completely quitting music, she just didn’t have plans to release another album.

Her self-imposed vacation from the industry was a fruitful one, though. She gave birth to two daughters: to Ethel Mary in November 2011 and to Marnie Rose in January 2013.

But after four years of hiatus, the 28-year-old songstress staged her comeback with a new single, “Hard Out Here,” in November.

Still as provocative as ever, Allen revealed why she even left in the first place, and it has something to do with some people she used to call friends.

“I feel like when I was growing up an dreaming of being a pop star, it was the days of Britpop when things felt authentic and anarchic, and people were taking drugs and having a lot of fun and having sex with each other and it wasn’t fake, it was real,” she told Esquire magazine for its February issue, in which she is the cover star.

“So excuse me if I found it a bit disappointing when I arrived and it was a bunch of sterile f****** botoxed idiots that stank of desperation.”

Allen is known for her acerbic tongue, so it’s a rare and genuine occasion when she gives praises to people.

Earlier in December, she became New Zealand’s breakout star Lorde’s unlikely champion when she slammed the Grammy Awards for snubbing the 17-year-old star for the Best New Artist category.

Lorde is nominated for four awards, but she didn’t get a nod for Best New Artist despite the fact that she’s basically a new artist.

“#SHAMMYS #lordemusic rocks,” she posted after a series of angry tweets.
