Liverpool FC News: Stellar Season Causes Reds Striker to Bag 2014 PFA Player of the Year Honours

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez bagged the 2014 PFA Player of the Year award following a stellar showing in the ongoing Premier League season.

The Uruguay international leads all goalscorers in the Premiership, finding the back of the net 30 times, which accounts for 31% of the Reds' 96 goals, while also playing a significant part in 21 other conversions by delivering as much assists.

The feat that he has accomplished might be unprecedented as he initially served a five-match ban in the domestic league at the onset of the term, but, nevertheless, went on to clinch the top individual award in England.

"The Premier League is full of really great players and so it is a great honour when these players recognise your work on the pitch," said the 27-year-old.

"I always try my best for the team and it is nice to get awards but really this is for my team-mates and the staff at Liverpool because without their help I wouldn't have this prize."

Suarez went ahead of Young Player of the Year recipient Eden Hazard and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, who were voted second and third, respectively.
