Lorde is getting a taste of how awful some artists’ fans really are when her rumoured boyfriend is subjected to racist attacks on social media. Justin Bieber and One Direction fans are calling James Lowe an “ugly, old Asian” guy.

Even before “Royals” hit the Billboard charts, Lorde has been posting photos of her and the 24-year-old James on her social media accounts. There wasn’t any confirmation that they are an item, but it’s rather an obvious observation, one that leads media to deduce that they are in a relationship.

They look so happy together as well. Unfortunately, there are meanies who don’t want them to have a happily ever after.

Cyberbullies are targeting James with racist taunts, also calling him ugly and old. The online assailants are said to be fans of the British boyband One Direction and of Canadian tween heartthrob Justin Bieber.

Apparently, One Directioners and Beliebers are just retaliating after Lorde called their idols “ugly.” But as the celebrity site Jezebel pointed out, there’s no record of the 17-year-old Auckland schoolgirl saying such thing.

It’s also out of character for Lorde to insult anyone based on their appearance. The self-proclaimed feminist has been called out by Selena Gomez for her less than favourable comment on Selena’s song “Come and Get It.” She has also been quoted expressing her harsh opinions on other artists’ music or behaviour several times, but she has never said anything bad about one’s physical appearance.

But it appears that her critics don’t care if she has actually insulted their idols’ looks or not. Twitter is being inundated with posts insulting her alleged boyfriend’s physical looks and race.
