The “Luke Cage” series is set to air on Netflix soon. “Luke Cage” is the third Marvel show on the online streaming site after “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones” and is described by many as must-see TV, even for individuals who are not familiar with the comics. Here is a thorough initial guide for potential viewers.

Spoiler alert! This article contains "Luke Cage" spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.

Luke Cage (Mike Colter) first appeared as a love interest of Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) in her Netflix series. Luke has superhuman strength and is indestructible. Jones was previously assigned to get some details about Luke by a man whose wife the latter slept with. Jessica later discovered that Luke was an enhanced human.

Luke was trying to get answers about the death of his wife. Jessica later confessed that she killed her, under the influence of a man named Kilgrave (David Tennant). When Luke finally confronted Kilgrave, he learned that his wife found out about the origins of the latter’s power and had a video of him as a child being tested by his own parents. Jessica and Luke had a grand battle while his mind was being possessed by Kilgrave. Jessica was able to knock him out and kill Kilgrave.

While Jessica Jones’ story ends, Luke Cage’s will begin. “Luke Cage” will focus on Luke’s background, his principles and future as a hero. The story will be set months after the end of “Jessica Jones.” Luke will be battling political corruption and the criminal underworld, together with his own past, in Harlem.

IGN reported that the series will also feature crime boss Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali), Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard), Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Scarfe (Frank Whaley) and Shades Alvarez (Theo Rossi). Although there will be references to Jessica Jones, “Luke Cage” will delve more about his relationship with his late wife, his time in prison and the experiments that resulted to his extraordinary powers.

In the comics, Luke Cage is the first street-level hero who has flaws and suffer similar issues as ordinary humans. He is also among the first black superhero characters that paved the way for more to arrive. “Luke Cage” Season 1 will stream on Sept. 30, 2016 on Netflix. More updates and details are expected soon.
