Within a span of three to four months, Microsoft has released several low-end and midrange devices such as the Lumia 640, the Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 540, the Lumia 430, the Lumia 532 and the Lumia 535. The Redmond based company is yet to release a flagship device since quite some time. However, fresh information from Nokia Power User, it is expected to release two flagship and two more midrange smartphones this year.

Lumia 840

The Lumia 840 will be launched as a successor model for the Lumia 830, states Nokia Power User (NPU). It will be housing a 5-inch display screen and a better processor than the one present inside the Lumia 830.

The successor model will look similar to the predecessor model. The rear panel will be featuring a 13-14 MP PureView technology camera. On the front, it will be housing a 5 MP camera.

Lumia 740 XL

Lumia 740 XL may either feature a 5.5-inch or 5.7-inch display screen. The camera of the device will be similar to the ones present on the Lumia 840 but it will not feature the PureView technology.

Lumia 940 And Lumia 940 XL Flagships

According to NPU, the two flagships that are expected to release this year are the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL. The former is expected to feature a 5-inch whereas the latter will be a phablet with 5.7-inch screen. Both the devices will be running on Windows 10 Mobile OS.

Unlike the Lumia 930 that sports a 20 MP camera, the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL will be equipped with 24-25 MP rear camera. Both the devices will be housing a 5 MP or higher front-facing camera.

Rumours are rife that the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL will come with advanced features such as iris scanner, 3D-interaction support and a stylus. GSM Arena claims that since these devices will come preloaded with Windows 10, there is a possibility that will be powered by a hexa-core or an octa-core processor.

Since Microsoft will be releasing the Windows 10 mobile edition to vendors by the end of the second quarter, the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL are likely to get released by the beginning of the third year.

As of this writing, there is no confirmation from Microsoft on the above listed smartphones. The handsets listed here feature tentative names.
