Man Records Girl In Victoria University Toilet, Apologises Before Escaping
The police are looking for a man who allegedly filmed a female student in the toilet of the Victoria University. They believe that the man could be a fellow student in same the university.
Investigators have released images from the CCTV footage of the suspect who is believed to be around 170 centimetres tall and aged between 20 and 25 years. The man was wearing blue pants and a dark-coloured T-shirt. He was also wearing thick black-rimmed glasses and had short black hair.
The female student noticed a shadow on the floor of the toilet, when she looked up, she saw a mobile phone held over the wall of the cubicle. The 19-year-old screamed and the man in the next cubicle instantly apologised. She waited until the man left the toilet block. Thereafter, she raised an alarm.
Police have not confirmed the exact spot of the incident. However, it is believed that the incident took place in Building 2 at Holmsglen Institute of TAFE. Police believe that the man might have waited for 20 minutes in the toilets before the woman went in. Investigators later released an image of the suspect holding a mobile phone.
According to Senior Constable Marianne Voswinkel, the incident left the victim traumatised. She said it was “incredibly disturbing” for the victim to have been recorded in a private facility.
"She's very apprehensive about using the facilities; it has affected her studying at the university," Voswinkel said, “We believe he may be a new student there." The senior constable described the man’s behaviour as “incredibly indecent."
Voswinkel added that the man’s action was “very premeditated.” He is facing charges of up-skirting. According to Voswinkel, there was a class nearby and the victim felt more comfortable using the toilet. The security office is very close to the toilet, she said.
The incident took place around 7 p.m. on Mar. 3. The female student was studying in a university library before she went to the toilet.
