Manny Pacquiao Has Got Chris Algieri Fight All Figured Out
Manny Pacquiao returns to the ring in less than a month in his fight against Chris Algieri. For the eight-division Filipino world champion, it would be a piece of cake defending his welterweight title because he got the undefeated New Yorker all figured out.
In a news article by ESPN, Pacquiao chats about how he is shaping up for his fight in Macau. Pacquiao, who holds 56-5-2 records with 38 knockout wins, admits that Algieri is the "most dangerous opponent" he will ever face in his career. According to Pacquiao, Algieri's scientific approach in boxing, physical fitness, and age (being five years younger than him) are the reasons why he thinks he is up for one of most difficult fights in his career. Pacquiao said that only Antonio Margarito, whom he defeated in 2010, tops Algieri in terms of height and reach.
Pacquiao isn't intimidated by Algieri's height and reach. He has already devised a plan on how he can attack and cause damage to the American fighter. One of the tactics that Pacquiao has been working on is to chase Algieri down to close the distance. He said that he will need more speed to be able to cause serious blows to Algieri.
"I do not intend to fight Algieri's fight," Pacquiao said. "I intend on fighting my fight and more importantly, making him fight my fight."
Pacquiao added that the boxing fans will be in for a treat on the night of the event. He promised that the bout will be fast and exciting.
The 35-year-old Filipino said he is not taking the fight lightly. To ensure his victory, Pacquiao said he makes sure he gives his 100 percent in his training camp. In addition to his training, Pacquiao also keeps his body fit doing morning exercises and sweating out in the gym. Not only that, Pacquiao also conditions his mind and spiritual being. Pacquiao vows to deliver an impressive performance in Macau and he is more than willing to sacrifice everything to beat Algieri.
As for Algieri, he already has a game plan to upset Pacquiao, ABS-CBN News reports. Algieri said that he and his coach have been studying Pacquiao's style. He said he is prepared and extremely pleased with where he is at right now.
Algieri's coach Tim Laney revealed that they have been watching a lot Pacquiao's fights and they are doing everything to become familiar about the Filipino's fighting style. Laney said that the key to beating Pacquiao is to "control his speed."
In more than three weeks' time, Pacquiao will defend his welterweight belt against Algieri. The fight will take place on Nov. 22 at The Venetian Macao in Macau, China.
