Rafael Nadal To Kick Off 2015 Season At The Mubadala World Tennis Championship, Undergoes Knee Treatment Prior Appendectomy
Rafael Nadal officially ended his season with the announcement that he will not be competing in Paris and the World Tour Finals in London. The Spaniard has chosen to sit out the remainder of the 2014 season to undergo surgery for his appendicitis, but it is expected that Nadal will be back in action in January.
According to Live Tennis Guide, Nadal is scheduled to play at the 2015 Mubadala Tennis Championship. Unfortunately, the world's third-ranked athlete, who will have appendectomy on Nov. 3, will have to recover fast from his illness to be able to compete in Abu Dhabi.
Nadal reportedly said that he is hopeful that he can go back to training after the operation on his appendix. According to the Web site, he revealed he anticipates being 100 percent fit after five to six weeks. He said that the Mubadala Tennis Championship is the best tournament to begin his season and he hopes to be able to play great tennis there.
The tournament's official site further confirmed Nadal's participation in the event. Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils will also be playing in the 2015 Mubadala Tennis Championship.
Nadal Gets Knee Treatment Prior Appendectomy
Nadal is currently in Vitoria, Spain because he is currently having treatments for the chronic tendinitis in both of his knees, Spanish news outlet Marca.com reports. Mikel Sanchez, a growth factor injection specialist whom Nadal has been working with since 2010, was the one who administered his knee injections.
Nadal usually takes his knee treatments before his pre-season preparations and gives it at least an interval of one week to get rid of its aftereffects, but this time around, he decided to rush it due to his pending appendectomy procedure.
Meanwhile, Nadal has also confirmed that he will take part in the Copa Claro tournament in Buenos Aires from Feb. 21 to March 1, 2015, Fox News Latino reports. For the fans of the Majorca native, it will not be long until they see their tennis icon back in hard court action again.
Nadal finished his season as World No. 3. He reached the finals of the 2014 Australian Open, fourth round of Wimbledon, and won the Roland Garros trophy.
