Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum recently detailed the process for choosing Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent, which would probably be the last fight for the Filipino boxing sensation.

Pacquiao has yet to pick an opponent for his comeback fight next year, but according to Arum, the former eight-division titlist will pick his foe in November. Arum has listed down three potential fighters for Pacquiao’s next bout: Amir Khan, Terence Crawford and Timothy Bradley.

Arum recently stated that Pacquiao would be watching Crawford defend his World Boxing Organisation super lightweight championship against Dierry Jean and would decide from there whether to consider the 28-year-old American as his next opponent. However, Arum explained that he could not rely on Pacquiao seeing the Crawford-Jean fight in the Philippines, so he had sent a recorded tape of the bout to make sure the Filipino boxer could watch Crawford fight.

Bradley has expressed interest in a trilogy with Pacquiao, but the current WBO welterweight champion still needs to overcome a challenge on Nov. 7, when he faces Brandon Rios. However, Arum noted that the winner of Bradley-Rios could suit up against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who challenges World Boxing Council middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on Nov. 21; hence, Pacquiao may need to wait until the result of Canelo-Cotto bout before considering a third instalment with Bradley.

“So sometime before the end of November I will probably fly to the Philippines with Mike [Koncz] and we will go over everything and make our decision,” Arum told Boxing Scene.

Crawford successfully defended his title against Jean after winning via a 10th-round technical knockout (TKO) in the HBO World Championship Boxing during the weekend. While it suggests that Crawford moves atop the pecking order of Pacquiao’s short list of opponents, Pacquiao’s adviser, Michael Koncz, claimed that “Hands of Stone” is “not the first choice” for the fight of the Filipino boxing icon.

However, Josh Katzowitz of Forbes believes Crawford is the man to fight in Pacquiao’s farewell bout. Katzowitz claimed that Crawford would give Pacquiao a more exciting fight and create a strong pay-per-view audience that would bring both fighters a huge payday, considering the American’s unblemished record of 27 wins and 19 KOs.

A rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. would probably be the most ideal farewell fight for Pacquiao, but with “Money” out of the picture after retiring from boxing in September, the best choice as Pacquiao’s next opponent is Khan, according to Dan Ambrose of Boxing News 24. Ambrose noted that Khan brings the most money for Pacquiao and would draw a lot of interest than a fight with Crawford, who also fights under Top Rank Promotions.

“It never did make any sense at all for Pacquiao to fight Crawford, because there’s no real payoff for him in terms of money in taking that fight,” Ambrose wrote. “The only people that want to see Pacquiao-Crawford is Arum and a tiny group of hardcore boxing fans, who prefer to see pure boxing rather than action type fighters.”

Fight fans have not heard any updates about a possible fight with Khan after the British fighter backed out, saying that talks for a bout with Pacquiao have not materialised. However, according to Boxing Junkie, Arum claimed that he is in consistent communication with Khan’s attorney Robert Davis and uncle Taz about a possible fight with the Bolton welterweight’s former sparring partner.
