Manny Pacquiao may not just be leaving the boxing world to focus on his aspirations as a politician in the Philippines, but the Filipino boxing great could also be gearing up for his professional basketball career in the hoop country.

Suiting up as a playing coach for Mahindra Enforcers, Pacquiao’s basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association, the former eight-division titlist scored his first career field goal during the team’s loss against another PBA team in the league’s 41 st season. Pacquiao, who only played four games last season and registered one point off a split from the free throw line, scored a jump shot from the baseline early in the second quarter of the ball game.

“It was just a lucky shot,” Pacquiao said in his native language, reports the Philippine Star . “I’ve been practicing every day and I’m happy that my shot went in.”

Pacquiao’s game day appearance came as a surprise to the Filipino fans as the boxer-turned-politician has been recovering from a surgery that repaired a torn rotator cuff suffered against Mayweather in May. According to Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum, Pacquiao is set to retire from competing in the boxing ring and will have the last fight of his career no later than Apr. 9.

"We talked very seriously, and he said, 'Bob, hopefully, by the middle of May I will have been elected senator in the Philippines, and at that point I cannot engage in boxing because I need to focus on the senate and I have to be in attendance,’” Arum told ESPN . "Manny told me this fight on April 9 will be his last fight."

Pacquiao, who plans to focus on his political career as he runs for a Senate seat in the Philippine’s May elections, is yet to pick his final opponent for 2016. But according to Arum, the list of potential comeback foes for the Filipino fighter has come down to three candidates: Amir Khan, Terence Crawford, and Timothy Bradley.

Bradley has expressed interest to have a trilogy with Pacquiao, according to Boxing Scene. However, the World Boxing Organisation welterweight champion still has to overcome Brandon Rios next month before officially throwing his name as a candidate for the Filipino’s next opponent.

Crawford, who also fights under Top Rank Promotions, was the latest to be connected as Pacquiao’s next opponent. Arum has revealed that Pacquiao may consider fighting the 28-year-old American after a good performance against Dierry Jean in the HBO World Boxing Championship, where Crawford won via 10th round TKO.

Khan, on the other hand, has been linked as the leading candidate in Arum’s shortlist, but the British fighter has reportedly backed down after talks between both fighters’ camps did not materialise. But according to Boxing Junkie, Arum insisted that he is in constant touch with Khan’s attorney Robert Davis and his uncle Taz.
