All eyes are on the forthcoming Miss Universe 2013 beauty pageant to be held in Moscow, Russia, featuring more than 86 beautiful and young women. It would not be surprising that this annual pageant and other beauty contests draw millions of viewers globally because the candidates are eye candies.

However, being a senior citizen did not stop 10 Filipina grandmothers in the U.S. from participating in a beauty pageant created for women their age. Queen Lola 2013 was held this week in Long Beach, California, in between the recently concluded Miss World 2013 and the coming Miss Universe 2013.

The winner, Miss Utah, is 71-year-old Julie Rose who joined the unique beauty pageant created for Filipina grannies in the U.S. on the dare of a friend.

While many grannies her age would be content knitting clothes for the grandchildren while on a rocking chair, Julie competes in marathons and fitness battles and could bench press 150 pounds. She is a widow with seven children and 37 grandchildren.

"When we're healthy and fit at my age, we get to enjoy our grandchildren a little longer and we are not a burden to our families, society, anybody. Plus, I can help people who are in need of help from me who I could not help otherwise if I am bedridden," Julie said, quoted by ABS-CBN.

The 4th runner-up in Queen Lola 2013 is Lily Lao, the aunt of Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao. Lily is the first cousin of Manny's mother, Dionesa Pacquiao. She also got the best in talent by her musical piece of her life story.

No, there was no swimsuit competition for the senior beauty contestants, and the women with gray hair shared their wisdom during the Q&A.

The winners' prizes include vacation packages in the Philippines, jewellery and TV guestings.

This is the second year of the competition. Here is the clip of the 2012 pageant.
