Marcos Rojo Went On Strike At Sporting Lisbon To Facilitate A Move To Old Trafford
Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo revealed that he went on strike at Sporting Lisbon to make sure that his move to the Old Trafford wouldn't pass him by. When Rojo learned about the interest of Manchester United to him, he already set his heart on a switch. Sporting was reluctant to take part into discussions, leaving the 24-year-old to take the matters on his own.
In the summer, the Argentine, who made his first appearance for Argentina in 2011, was signed for 16 million pounds but he is currently out of action due to a dislocated shoulder. He is about to miss the game against Arsenal at the Emirates, which is an insipid way to begin their campaign.
At a certain point, he refused to train but the 24-year-old revealed how his former compatriot Sebastian Veron intervened to solve his crisis and calm him down. He further claimed that he is grateful to the former Manchester United for making him go back to training, which facilitated the transfer.
He said that it is a huge surprise when he was informed that United wanted to buy him. "I was in Portugal when my representative told me," Rojo told reporters, according to Mirror. He asked me to stay calm but I could not. I started living this dream."
According to the Argentine, he could not think of anything else since the news and he constantly makes calls to check. When it was apparent that the transfer is not happening, he refused to work with Sporting and that was when Veron played his part. Rojo revealed that Veron has been like a strict father and reminded him that if Manchester United wants a player then it will not let him escape, which made him go back.
Meanwhile, on his first day at Old Trafford, Rojo said that he was overwhelmed by the support he received from Manchester United fans. He was delighted to see that fans were buying scarves with his face and name on it during their first home game, that he took snaps to send to his girlfriend.
