Mariah Carey rejects James Packer's $39 million prenup
Mariah Carey has reportedly rejected James Packer's US$30 million (AU$39 million) prenuptial agreement. The 46-year-old singer called it tacky and insulting. However, Mariah has apparently not stopped pushing the idea to get an inconvenience fee from James after he broke off their engagement. Mariah claimed the breakup has left her depressed and damaged her bank balance.
The prenup's total maximum cost was US$30 million but Mariah claimed that James agreed to a US$50 million (AU$65.1 million) lump sum."James will pay Mariah, and Mariah shall accept, US$6 million dollars per year for each full year of marriage, up to a maximum of $30 million ... adjusted pro-rata on a weekly basis [US$151,385 (AU$197, 298 million) per week]," according to TMZ.
Why James Packer really dumped Mariah Carey
The entertainment news magazine reported that the couple were negotiating one of the most insane prenups that people have ever seen. The agreement in the prenup covered the definition of gifts, budget for clothing, issuance of credit card and the use of a private plane."Except for gifts between them for their engagement, wedding or on birthdays and anniversaries, no item of jewelry and/or personal adornment costing over US$250,000 (AU$ 325,804) will be deemed a gift unless accompanied by, or promptly followed by, a writing specifically stating 'This is my gift to you.'"
The alleged prenup stated that James agreed to buy certain clothing for Mariah but it should not be used for business or for shows. It also indicated that Mariah shall provide the clothing of her children. However, there was a blank space for the ex-couple to agree on the maximum amount that James needed to shell out.
The agreement also stated that James was willing to pay for a credit card for Mariah. "James shall cause a credit card(s) to be issued for use by Mariah and staff ... the amount of expenses ... shall not exceed US $____ per calendar month."
The agreement for the use of a private plane stated, "James shall provide the use of one private aircraft, of his selection, for Mariah's personal use, or that of her children and nannies only when James, in his sole discretion, determines it is appropriate to do so."
