‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’: Easter egg hints crossover with ‘Luke Cage’ on Netflix
Original air date on ABC: Tuesdays
ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” hinted that it may be doing a crossover with “Luke Cage” on Netflix in the near future. The latest episode of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” titled “The Patriot,” featured an Easter egg, which could lead to Luke Cage meeting the agency members.
The Jan. 17, 2017 episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” started with an assassination attempt on the agency’s director Jeffrey Mace (Jason O’Mara). A powerful weapon was used, which was enough to kill Luke Cage. The details about the weapon in “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” remain a mystery but Marvel fans immediately discussed the specifics of the sniper bullet that was used against Mace, writes Comic Book. Many concluded that it was a “Judas Bullet,” similar to the one seen in the Netflix series.
In “Luke Cage,” the Judas Bullet is a special ammo created by Hammer Industries. It is made of Chitauri alien metals, which burrows deep into the target upon impact before it explodes. It was among the few things that could pierce through Luke Cage’s impenetrable skin. It also looked very much like the bullet in the latest “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” episode.
The Judas Bullet may have also been used against Mace in “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” since he has superhuman strength and enhanced abilities, comparable to Captain America. “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and Marvel show on Netflix generally acknowledge the happenings in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Mace was indeed attacked using a Judas Bullet, it would be the first official link between “Luke Cage” and a Marvel property that does not air on Netflix, notes Screen Rant. There may be future cross-references with other Marvel series in the future.
Netflix Marvel fans also speculate that the “I” in “IGH” may mean “Inhumans.” The Inhumans were first introduced on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and are currently being developed to have its own TV series. Judas Bullets were generally made to battle superhumans, and these may soon be used to fight Inhumans as well. The appearance of the mystery ammo in “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” at least provides some clues on the direction that the series is currently taking.
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is set to airs Tuesdays on ABC in the US. In Australia, it airs on SyFy. More updates and details are expected soon.
