Matt Damon Confirms Return As Jason Bourne In 2016 Bourne Film With Director Paul Greengrass
The latest reports claim that actor Matt Damon is not yet done portraying Jason Bourne in the Bourne movie franchise. The 44-year-old Hollywood star recently shared exciting news while doing an interview with his close friend, Ben Affleck.
On Friday night, Nov. 7, Matt and Ben were celebrating the fourth season of their resurrected passion project called "Project Greenlight." The two initially talked about their HBO series but when the subject shifted to physical fitness, "Argo" actor Ben Affleck revealed the huge casting news.
"Well, [Damon's] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness," Affleck exclusively shared to E! News. Matt Damon further confirmed the exciting news when the entertainment Web site asked for clarification.
"It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. [Director] Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes," Damon stated. The actor and the film director will be working together once more in the upcoming fifth Bourne movie project.
In 2013, director Paul Greengrass revealed in an exclusive Deadline interview that he no longer wanted to make another Bourne film. "In the end I felt I had given it my all in two films I'm very proud of and didn't want to make another if I didn't believe it could be as good if not better," Greengrass explained.
The film director further added that the best thing was for him to move on from the project and have someone else work on the Bourne movie franchise. Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon worked together on the second and third installment of the original Bourne trilogy titled "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum."
Then, "Avengers" star Jeremy Renner landed the role of government operative Aaron Cross in the movie franchise's 2012 film titled "The Bourne Legacy" where the titular character, Jason Bourne, was only mentioned. Actor Jeremy Renner is reportedly set to star in a 2016 sequel with director Justin Lin taking the helm.
However, it is still unclear what the upcoming Damon-Greengrass film means for the Bourne project starring Jeremy Renner. According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Frank Marshall insisted in September that the Bourne project starring Jeremy Renner is very much alive and will be moving forward. "It's still in development. We're working to get a script as soon as possible," Marshall revealed.
