Meet 'Vampire Academy's' Zoey Deutch, the Girl Better than 'Twilight's' Kristen Stewart [PHOTOS & VIDEO]
Countless vampire flicks have made it to the big screen in hopes of beating "Twilight." So far, not one film has managed to beat the box office hit adapted from Stephanie Meyer's best-selling novels. However, Richelle Mead's "Vampire Academy" and the female protagonist in it, Rose Hathaway, played by Zoey Deutch, is said to beat "Twilight's" Kristen Stewart.
If there is one word to describe Zoey Deutch, it'll be "moxie." Director Mark Waters of "Vampire Academy" have pretty much the same word to describe Zoey's character on film, Rose Hathaway, a half human and half vampire.
"She's got a lot of personality, and that fun, brassy energy is what makes Rose interesting," said filmmaker Mark Waters.
Zoey Deutch has the same thoughts on her character and the film adaptation set to hit cinemas February 14, 2014.
"I love this story and Rose and every aspect of it just as much as any die-hard fan," says Deutch, adding, "I'm stoked for people to see how we've remained loyal to the book but also injected some of our own colors into it."
For those who haven't read or heard of Richelle Mead's novels or seen the trailer for the first film adaptation, "Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters," a quick synopsis follows:
"Based on author Richelle Mead's worldwide bestselling series, VAMPIRE ACADEMY tells the legend of Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch) and Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), two 17-year-old girls who attend a hidden boarding school for Moroi (mortal, peaceful Vampires) and Dhampirs (half-vampire/half-human guardians). Rose, a rebellious Guardian-in-training and her best friend, Lissa - a royal vampire Princess - have been on the run when they are captured and returned to St.Vladamirs Academy, the very place where they believe their lives may be in most jeopardy. Thrust back into the perils of Moroi Society and high school, Lissa struggles to reclaim her status while Rose trains with her mentor and love-interest, Dimitri (Danila Kozlovsky), to guarantee her place as Lissa's guardian. Rose will sacrifice everything to protect Lissa from those who intend to exploit her from within the Academy walls and the Strigoi (immortal, evil vampires) who hunt her kind from outside its sanctuary."
Unlike what other critics claim that "Vampire Academy" is just a rip off from "Twilight," the difference between the two films is blaringly obvious, especially when it concerns the female protagonists, Rose Hathaway and Isabella Swan.
"Rose is not an innocent - she's deeply embedded in this culture, and her aggressive personality is pretty much the polar opposite of Twilight's Bella Swan," reports USA Today.
