Mel B has left the struggling 2Day FM breakfast show. The former Spice Girl was quietly removed from the radio program, leaving it without its biggest name.

The British singer was added to the line-up of Jules Lund, Merrick Watts and Sophie Monk in the newly revised format of the show after Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O defected to rival KIIS FM earlier this year.

With Mel’s superstar status, Southern Cross Austereo, the parent company of 2Day FM, hoped that it would be able to maintain its lion share of ratings in the morning programs.

However, that has not come to fruition. The Sydney show, which was touted as “breakfast with the stars” during its launch in January, only takes a measly 3.6 per cent of audience share.

On Tuesday, Mel’s name and image have been removed from all 2Day FM marketing materials, which alerted their listeners to the new development. Instead of the program title “Jules, Merrick & Sophie with Mel B,” the show is now named just “Jules, Merrick & Sophie.”

“We can confirm Mel B will not be continuing with the breakfast show for the remainder of the year,” Souther Cross Austereo’s Sydney general manager Jeremy Simpson told Mumbrella in a statement.

Her contract was for an initial six month period. Mel remains a good friend of the show and we look forward to having her back as a guest in the future.”

Mel B, whose real name is Melanie Brown, also confirmed her exit from the ailing radio program, telling Confidential, “I have loved my time in Australia being on ‘The Voice Kids’ and part of the breakfast team for the past six months. I can confirm I won’t be continuing or the remainder of the year.”

Lund posted a send-off message for Scary Spice on the Facebook page of the show.

“Huge thanks Mel B for helping us launch a new era at 2DayFM,” he wrote. “You’ve given us a tonne of laughs on and off-air! While you’re mad busy travelling the globe with your million other jobs, we’ll certainly be crashing your L.A. home (whether you like it or not!) Jules x”
