The men in suits have knocked out the superheroes in the box office.

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones' "Men in Black 3" makes a debut as the number one movie over the US Memorial Day weekend. The "Men in Black" sequel grossed $55 million domestically from Friday to Sunday.

The MIB 3 movie pushes Disney's "The Avengers" in second place which have topped three consecutive weekends at the box office. The superhero movie sensation earned over $37 million over the three days opening weekend but have pushed its domestic gross to $514 million. It has become the fourth movie to ever earn half a billion dollars.

According to Sony, the alien film's distributor, they have estimated that "Men in Black 3" will earn $70 million domestically on its four-day holiday weekend and will gross $202 million worldwide. Universal's "Battleship" is in third spot this weekend with a domestic earning of $10.8 million and $44.3 million internationally.

"Men in Black 3" sold a bit more than its two prequels which earned just over $50 million. But the first installment of "Men in Black" was in 1997 and the second was in 2002 when movie tickets were much lower in price. This means that even if MIB 3 sold a couple million dollars more, they have sold fewer tickets in comparison to the first two movies.

Disney estimates that their movie "The Avengers" will snag $47.1 million over the four-day holiday weekend in the US which will lift the movie's domestic earnings to $523.8 million. It will put "The Avengers" at third spot beating "The Dark Knight" at fourth.

The superhero packed film will top "The Dark Knight" over the weekend which will leave only two movies above it. "Avatar" retains its top spot at $760.5 million while "Titanic" at second spot at $658.5 million.
