Mercedes Boss Toto Wolff Speaks About Lewis Hamilton And Nico Rosberg Rivalry
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is not concerned at all about the rivalry that involves their drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Wolff said that the Mercedes team has already learned lessons from the duo’s rivalry issues in the 2014 season.
With Hamilton and Rosbert at the wheel aiming to wrap up the world driver’s crown at the end of the season, Wolff admitted that they do not expect the duo to be the best of friends. Although Hamilton and Rosberg share a special bond, which started back in their junior karting days, Wolff said that the team anticipates a competition similar to the one that Hamilton and Rosberg had in the previous season. Despite the rivalry, Wolff said that Hamilton and Rosberg’s professionalism and respect for one another will allow them to keep matters cordial and keep the spirit within the team.
“We were very well aware last year they could run into difficult moments, and we are very well aware this could happen this year as well,” Wolff told Press Association Sport. “But we’ve learned a lot from last year, learned a lot from working with each other, analysing our mistakes, and we will be trying to do things better in 2015.”
According to Wolff, the team had its ups and downs last season, particularly the controversial events of Spa and Monaco. The important thing is that they were able to iron out and resolve the issues. Wolff said it has not been an easy truce between humans and high-performing individuals, but they ultimately emerged victorious as a team. Mercedes won the Formula One, or F1, World Constructors’ champion in 2014.
The 2014 season presented a rollercoaster ride for Hamilton and Rosberg. Both had 16 top 5 finishes. Hamilton had 16 podium finishes while Rosberg had 15. Hamilton has had 11 grand prix wins compared with Rosberg’s five. In the end, Hamilton edged out Rosberg to win the F1 World Drivers’ Title. Rosberg finished the season trailing behind the 30-year-old Briton.
Meanwhile, the second pre-season test of the 2015 F1 season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain is underway. Hamilton and Rosberg will take turns at the wheel. Hamilton is scheduled to drive around the track on day one. Rosberg will take the wheel on the second day.
