Meta Gear Solid fans enraged by pachinko machine, Konami apologises

Fans are enraged by a pachinko machine with a Metal Gear Solid theme. The pachinko machine, a Japanese slot machine, is not simply decorated with characters from the Metal Gear series as most players expected on reveal. The machine features overblown cinematics, sound effects and a makeshift gameplay with a pull of a lever. This decision from the publishers Konami was met with unanimous outrage by its fans.

Metal Gear Solid sub-Reddit users were vocal about the pachinko machine. Reddit users from another sub-Reddit shared similar reactions. The majority of the posts expressed bewilderment of Konami's choices and anger.

One Reddit poster, however, attempted to shed some positive view. The post explained why the MGS pachinko isn't as bad as what people are making it to be. Reddit posters quickly pointed out that it was Konami's series of business choices that caused the hatred and the pachinko release has shown Konami's lack of care for the franchise.

Konami’s reputation amongst its fans have been in a steady decline. The majority of the fans, or ex-fans, believe that Konami has dropped making video games altogether.

Konami, as a consequence, was bombarded with distasteful comments in various media platforms. All this hate coming from the players did not stem from just this single reveal. The fire initially fuelled by the mistreatment and eventual departure of game designer Hideo Kojima, whose name is synonymous with Metal Gear Solid.

Metal Gear Solid is Konami’s most successful IP. It is unusual for a company to mistreat the person responsible for years of well received games. Fans have speculated reasons for the eventual falling off between Kojima and Konami. Unfortunately, Konami has not released any official statement concerning the actual reason.

Other fan theories reported was that the game assets used in the pachinko machine were from a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. This is not the first time news of Konami scrapping a game shook the gaming industry.

The cancellation of Silent Hills was the first big tremor. Silent Hills was hyped up with a well-received playable teaser. The game boasted a collaboration with director Guillermo del Toro and actor Norman Reedus.
