Miley made a striking entry, donning an embellished vintage Dolce & Gabbana ensemble consisting of a crop top and matching pants. Her hair was pulled back in her new style, two mini buns, and she raised her pout in bright red lipstick to complete the look.

Cyrus was in high spirits, as she revealed before her red carpet appearance that she will be collaborating with Robin Thicke in "Blurred Lines" at the show.

Cyrus didn't win any of MTV's "Moon Man" awards but her Twitter traffic for this year's Video Music Awards peaked at 306,100 tweets per minute.

"At one moment they took to twitter so much that we hit a one-second peak of 143,199 tweets per second," wrote Raffi Krikorian, Twitter's vice president, platform engineering, on the site's blog. So Miley Cyrus holds the record of the most tweets per minute during the VMAs. The MTV Video Music Awards 2012 had a peak of only 98,300 tweets per minute.

Miley Cyrus has revealed her desire to make the "We Can't Stop"/"Blurred Lines" musical mash up, "The best VMA performance of all time" in a pre-performance interview with MTV.
