'Minecraft' 1.8 Update Gets 'Minecraft' 14w34b Snapshot, 'Minecraft PS Vita' Trailer And A Possible Oculus Rift Port
As 4J Studios continues to work on the "Minecraft Xbox One Edition" and "Minecraft PS Vita Edition" in time for an August release, the developer did release a new PS Vita trailer through its Twitter page.
For now, the only update the developers are giving is that it is still bug fixing the Xbox One and PS Vita versions as the "Minecraft PS4 Edition" has already been submitted.
'Minecraft' And Oculus Still A Possibility
In addition, another bit of tidbit related to the "Minecraft" community is that developer and chief technical officer at Oculus John Carmack has offered to help port "Minecraft" to Oculus Rift.
"Say the word, ship the source, and I'll make sure it runs well on you-know-what," Carmack said via his Twitter account. According to DualShockers, this is in response to Mojang's Notch Persson, who has recently just stated that he is over about his disappointment about Facebook buying Oculus Rift.
Whether or not this does mean that Notch will now consider once again the possibility of "Minecraft" getting into the VR trend with Oculus remains to be seen, but it does put the issue to a more positive and probable light.
'Minecraft 1.8 Update' Release Coming Closer
Beyond the console versions of the game, there is also a new update for the PC version, as the latest round of snapshots from Mojang may be the last one before "Minecraft 1.8" gets a pre-release.
"With some luck, this week may be the last week of 1.8 snapshots! We're hoping to do a pre-release this Thursday if there are no major issues remaining in the snapshots by then," Mojang said via its official website.
"Minecraft" snapshots 14w34a and 14w34b have been released with new changes, including fixed features and bugs and optimisations. In the previous snapshot, a couple of bugs have been fixed, including the following:
- Chat Opacity Option not working
- Item frame causing duplication when loading map
- Tab list expands too far and is unreadable
- Rabbits sometimes have the name "entity.KillerBunny.name"
- Breaking/placing/changing blocks has a delay to disappear/appear
- Furnace progress reset on left/right-click drag
- Sign doesn't update with clone within tellraw sign
- Potion particles goes wrong
- Armour stand dropped down a few level on its own
- Massive visual glitching with VBO turned off and Chunk distance over 16
- CustomNames on Spiders, Endermen and Ender Dragons are displayed incorrectly.
The "Minecraft" Snapshot 14w34b also brought in a few bug fixes, mostly for crashes in the following areas:
- Written_book item page text not backwards compatible with v1.7 saves
- Crash when reaching y=254
- Cannot place armour stands
- Furnace Inventory is not being updated correctly/Furnace is generally unusable
- Hopper: java.lang.NullPointerException: Ticking block entity.
As usual, the developers are welcoming found bugs or issues to prepare the "Minecraft 1.8 update" for pre-release stage.
