Minecraft, Angry Birds Star Wars Lead $10 Billion Worth of Apps Sold by Apple in 2013
With $1 billion app sales in December alone, Apple registered total app sales of $10 billion in 2013, reports said.
The $1 billion sales was for 3 billion apps, a record-high volume for the App Store which has 1 million apps available for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch gadgets.
Among the best-selling apps are Minecraft, Angry Birds Star Wars and the Sleep Cycle alarm clock. While games are very popular items on the App Store, it also has newspapers, magazines, travel, business and health and fitness apps in the store which was opened in 2008, one year after the launch of the iPhone.
Minecraft is a sandbox indie game originally developed by Marcus Persson, a Swedish programmer. The game allows players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D procedurally generated world. Players could also explore, gather resources, craft and combat.

Angry Birds Star Wars is an offshoot of original game by Rovio Entertainment that features the mad birds versus pigs, now elevated by including elements of the popular sci-fi movie series Star Wars.
