‘Mortal Kombat X’ news and possible extended support hinted by NetherRealm Studios head
It has only been over a year since the release of “Mortal Kombat X.” With the announcement of the “Injustice 2” still ringing in fans ears following the explosive lineup and features, some have started to wonder about the future of NetherRealm Studios’ other game.
The good news is that the studio may still have some plans for the title. Hardcore Gamer spotted an interview with NetherRealm Studios’ head Ed Boon via the PlayStation Blogcast. While the podcast is primarily meant to promote “Injustice 2,” there was a little hint of plans for “Mortal Kombat X.”
“We’re very busy, because, ‘Mortal Kombat X,’ we extended its support even further than all the other games. It’s actually overlapping into our next game, ‘Injustice 2,’ which I keep trying to tell myself is a good thing, but it makes for a very busy schedule,” said Boon as quoted by Hardcore Gamer.
As to how the studio will support this, Boon did not expound on it. Of course, there is still speculation of another Kombat Pack to bring up the roster of characters. Some fans prefer to see characters that have been part of the long-standing “Mortal Kombat” franchise.
The extended support for “Mortal Kombat X” for the PS4 and Xbox One may also mean support for its mobile tie-in title of the same name. Just recently, the developer gave away some Koins and Soul rewards as a gift for reaching 40 million players.
In May, the developer released the May update, the biggest to date for “Mortal Kombat X” mobile. It brought not only new challenges, but also a new arm for the Faction Wars. According to GameSpot, the update was released as a celebration of the mobile title’s first birthday.
Some of the new features here include a new Faction War store and currency, the Blood Rubies. This allows players to purchase some new Equipment, as well as two new Gold Kards, Kobu Jutsu Tanya and Dark Emperor Liu Kang.
There will also be new challenge characters, the latest of which is Marksman Kung Jin. He is already available as a challenge, with a quick walkthrough here.
