Nathan Fillion Reprises His Role As Malcolm Reynolds For ‘Firefly Online’
When the show “Firefly” ended, many fans mourned for its loss. While not a huge ratings draw, the series, created by future “Avengers” director Joss Whedon, was able to gain a huge following and managed to continue telling its story through comic books published by Dark Horse and the feature length film “Serenity.” Soon enough, “Firefly Online” was announced to the excitement of many and now it has also been confirmed that Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as “Firefly” protagonist Malcolm Reynolds.
Malcolm Reynolds was the captain of the crew’s ship Serenity and was a favourite of many, mostly due to the performance Fillion gave to the character. Fillion won’t be the only returning character or actor though as Eurogamer has confirmed that Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk and more would be reprising their roles from the series for the free-to-play online game. The only actor to not return or be confirmed for the game is Gina Torres, who played an integral role in the series.
The game was supposed to come out back in 2014, but was delayed for unknown reasons. “Firefly Online” will be a social role-playing game that will have players taking on a role as a captain of a ship, who must recruit a crew and lead them into missions, similar to what Malcolm Reynolds did for his team in the “Firefly” show.
There haven’t been too many details revealed about the game so far, though a report from Polygon has confirmed that the free-to-play social game will include fully customisable ships and cross-platform functions. QMXi and Spark Plug Games are currently developing the online game.
“Firefly Online” was announced back in 2013 for the PC and MAC, along with iOS and Android mobile devices. So far there hasn’t been a lot of gameplay footage for the game, despite the fact that it was announced 2 years ago, however a companion app called the “Firefly Cortex” is currently available on Steam.
Anyone curious about the game can check out the game’s official website and even pre-register for instant access once the game comes out. For now, no official release date has been given, with the developers are hoping for a spring release.
