New Orleans Pelicans All-Star power forward Anthony Davis is reportedly hesitant to commit to a multi-year extension with his mother team, per advice of his agents. “Unibrow” is eligible to sign a long-term deal with his mother team after this season, yet, he might be willing to forego the option and look for a more lucrative deal in the summer of 2016 when a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, or CBA, is in place.

Davis can opt to avail of the “designated player” provision in the existing CBA, which will ensure that he stays in the city of New Orleans in the next six years of his prime. Despite this, the Kentucky product might be weighing his options given that the team has no salary cap available for the upcoming summer nor possess a Draft Pick in an upcoming loaded rookie class.

Nevertheless, his performance alone in his third year in the league while averaging 24 points and 12 rebounds per game has gotten a lot of attention and has slotted him alongside the names of Golden State’s Stephen Curry, Houston’s James Harden, Cleveland’s LeBron James and Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook in the conversation for this year’s Most Valuable Player. Even Curry has noticed the performance of the top overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and admitted that Davis belongs in the conversation for the league’s crème de la crème.

“Obviously there’s a precedent on winning and if your team is kind of in and out of the eight spot, it’s hard to keep that momentum in those conversations. But if you look at him individually, and what he’s been able to do, the company he’s keeping with the stat lines he’s keeping up — he deserves a lot of credit,” Curry recently said during a promotional video for March Madness.

Curry has been spot on in his observation of Davis’ individual achievements this year and it is understandable that the Warriors marksman holds the Pelicans player in high regard given that he has played with him on Team USA during last summer’s impeccable run in the FIBA World Cup of Basketball in Spain. Ironically, if the playoffs were to begin today, Curry’s team will face off with the man who is widely regarded as the future of the NBA.

The Pelicans are currently occupying the eighth and final slot in the ultra-competitive Western Conference and are trying to fend off the injury plagued Oklahoma City Thunder who are still missing the services of reigning MVP Kevin Durant and is set to lose power forward Serge Ibaka to a knee procedure. Coach Monty Williams’ team is no stranger to injury woes itself with starting point guard Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon and reserve stretch four Ryan Anderson all missing time due to an assortment of physical ailments.
