NBA Scores: Detroit Pistons 98, New York Knicks 95
The Detroit Pistons finally got their first win of the 2014-2015 NBA Season after beating the visiting New York Knicks, 98-95 on Wednesday led by center Greg Monroe, who finished with a big double-double of 23 points and 18 rebounds. Carmelo Anthony was shackled all night long and was forced to miss 16-of-21 shots for just 13 markers for New York, which dropped their third outing in five games.
Detroit wanted this win early leading by five after the first quarter and pushing it to a dozen points by halftime, 49-37. The Pistons added some more in the third making it 75-59 before the payoff period. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 20 markers while Andre Drummond (3/10 FGs) and Josh Smith (2/17 FGs) both struggled from the field for the Pistons but had 13 and 10 boards, respectively.
The Knicks made a run and a game out of it in the final and fourth quarter when New York outscored Detroit, 36-23 but just couldn’t complete the rally. Tim Hardaway Jr. key in the run in the Knicks’ comeback attempt and ended up with 20 points. Center Jason Smith had 17 points as a starter while Iman Shumpert contributed 15 markers.
Detroit dominated the glass on this evening, out-rebounding the Knicks, 55-43 and 19-11 on the offensive glass. The Pistons shot poorly overall at 36.8% from the field but had more attempts and makes from the free throw line.
The Pistons also got a good effort from their bench as Jonas Jerebko (11 points, 3/4 3FG) and D.J. Augustin (12 points, 2/4 3FG) both finished in double-figure scoring.
After back-to-back wins over the Cleveland Cavaliers and Charlotte Bobcats, the Knicks now have lost back-to-back as well with losses to the Washington Wizards and Pistons. Detroit lost to the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves and Brooklyn Nets in their first three games of the new season.
