'NCIS: Los Angeles' season 8 episode 9 recap: Chris O’Donnell reacts to big revelation, Callen no longer a lone wolf; Garrison decides to stay longer in ‘Glasnost’
Original air date on CBS: November 20, 2016; Next episode on Nov. 27
Thanksgiving is coming to "NCIS: Los Angeles," but all has not been to pleasant for Callen who thought he had no family. His unknown origins have unfolded little by little but everything has not been all that smooth for him.
Callen (Chris O’Donnell) had not seen his father Garrison (Daniel J. Travanti) since he escaped from Russia months ago, so seeing him came as a shock. What is even more mind boggling for him is figuring out at that point how his old man had come to the United States without even trying to see him. The older man, however, says that he had merely come to the United States for work. He had been hired after Artem’s arrest to find Katerina so he has to be in the US to protect her since she was the only one who could take down Pavel Volkoff.
While it looks like G. Callen had been the lone wolf all this time, it seems that such is not the case. After all, he has some blood relatives. At the end of the episode, Garrison informs him that the poisoned woman was his daughter, which only means that she was Callen’s half-sister. This effectively makes her daughter Callen’s niece.
TV Guide interviewed Chris O’Donnell regarding his reaction to Callen’s discovery and the kind of relationship his character will share with Garrison as the show moves forward. The actor reveals that Callen has been searching for answers his whole life and now that he is actually in a position to have them, he stumbles upon his own father in the hospital. All these secrets have been eating the life out of him for so many years and he has learned to live with them. Then, all of a sudden, he gets triggered and while he has a hob to do, he cannot just brush aside the issues that have been with him for a while.
He also reveals that more of Garrison will be seen for the season since he will still be hanging out around LA so there will be more interaction between them. How their relationship will progress remains to be seen but surely, it will affect them in a lot of ways.
“NCIS: Los Angeles” airs Sundays on CBS.
