New 'Borderlands' Game Will Be Exclusive To Next-Gen Consoles
It reported that Gearbox Software has already been working on the next "Borderlands" game, but there was no official announcement last month at the Penny Arcade Expo, or PAX. Take-Two Interactive, however, made the news official during its earnings call. More importantly, it has announced that the upcoming sequel will be exclusive to next-gen consoles.
Take-Two Interactive President Karl Slatoff confirmed to investors during the earnings call on Tuesday that the new and yet unnamed "Borderlands" project will be meant "specifically for next-gen consoles," according to Inquisitr. In other words, the "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" will be the last game in the co-op shooter franchise to release for the last gen PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles.
The news of "Borderlands" giving the current-gen consoles a miss in favour of the PS4 and Xbox 360 doesn't come as a surprise since both platforms have posted some stellar sales figures, says Gamespot. This would guarantee an excellent base of potential customers for the company.
Unfortunately, no information has been revealed about the upcoming game or how it will leverage the power of the next-gen consoles for better gameplay and graphics. The game doesn't even have a name as of now, but Gamespot believes Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford calling the upcoming game a "big one" could mean that it would likely be "Borderlands 3" and not another prequel or spinoff of the franchise.
PS4 and Xbox One owners, however, continue to be pampered by the makers of the "Borderlands" franchise. The next-gen platforms will be getting the "Borderlands: The Handsome Collection" on March 24. The upcoming release is an HD remaster of "Borderlands 2" and "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel" for the next gen consoles.
The remastered bundle was advertised during the Super Bowl. The ad harks back to the old-school '90s toy commercials. Check it out below.
