New 'Code Vein' gameplay trailer shows off combat similar to 'Dark Souls'
“Code Vein,” the latest upcoming video game by Bandai Namco, has just received its first gameplay trailer. First announced a month ago, the title is an action role-playing game (RPG) set in an alternate future where the world is in ruins. Located in the society called “Vein,” the inhabitants of this world are called Revenants who hold on to their sense of humanity by means of sucking blood. While details on the story were previously released, the newest trailer shows off actual gameplay whilst highlighting combat this time around.
Though the battle system has not been detailed, many are already comparing the title to another Bandai Namco series, “Dark Souls,” in terms of combat. As seen in the trailer, the action RPG features real-time combat, something that “Dark Souls” notably lacks. As Nerdist would put it, the upcoming title is essentially “Dark Souls,” but with anime vampires. The comparisons were even further drawn out in the game’s first trailer, teasing fans with a “Prepare to dine” message. As some fans may point out, this had been an obvious ode to the “Dark Souls” tagline, “Prepare to die.”
Gameplay is also set to have a buddy system that will allow players to explore the game’s large world with the help of their buddies who will assist them in their progress. The trailer also saw some of the game’s weapons and equipment in action. These would include “Blood Veils,” which are clothing-like equipment that boast characteristics similar to armour. The game’s weapons, such as halberds and swords, were also highlighted in the new trailer, going against a variety of foes known as the “Lost.” Once Revenants themselves, these creatures were ones who gave in to their bloodlust, ultimately losing their minds and becoming the monsters that trail after the game’s protagonists.
Some of the game’s locations were also shown in the trailer, including vast caves, dilapidated cities and icy mountains. Exploration in the title is expected to be vast, as it was previously reported that these locations may be even more extensive than they seem at first glance. Though it is still unknown as to which platforms the game will be published on, its release date is slated to be sometime in 2018. Watch the newest “Code Vein” trailer below:
