Now, the news wouldn't have been so surprising if fans knew about their relationship in the first place. The big question on everybody's mind is what happened between Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner? When exactly did they split and call it quits? How did Chad Kroeger even end up in the same page as Avril and Brody?

Well, to burst the bubble of fuzzy details, Avril and Chad first met in February of this year. Apparently, Chad Kroeger had helped out Avril in writing a song for her upcoming album. Sparks definitely flew between the two at their first meet. Right after the collaboration the two entered into a super silent courtship that not even anyone in Hollywood had found out about.

"A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," says a close source to Lavigne.

Despite the ten year age gap between 37-year old Chad and 27-year old Avril, Chad had still popped the big question on August 8 with a whopping 14-carat ring. Obviously, Avril said yes. Sources close to the family say that the families of both singers are caught in a pre-wedding bliss.

He makes her so happy," shares the source to People Magazine, adding, "Both of their families could not be more excited."

To date, this would be Avril's second walk down the aisle. If fans may recall, Avril was married to Sum41's lead singer, Deryck Whibley but called it quits in 2009. As for Chad, this would be his first walk down the aisle. Hopefully, this would be a "Happy Ending" for Avril Lavigne. As for Brody Jenner, Kim Kardashian's brother can bid adieu to his "skater girl."

Now, with a few more months before the end of 2012, there's more time for other celebrities to top the most shocking engagements of 2012.
