New players improve Socceroos' chances of winning, says sports expert
Andy Harper, a football expert at Fox Sports, says the future of the Australian team Qantas Socceroos is full of promise with its new roster despite the absence of its key trio (Mark Schwarzer, Harry Kewell, and Tim Cahill) and other important players for the upcoming season. Armed with a new set of talent, the Aussie squad is set to go against New Zealand on June 5th at Adelaide Oval for an Optus international friendly match, the team gears up for a more powerful performance this year.
Being a former player of the team and a world-class commentator, Harper has high hopes for the newly-formed line-up created by Coach Holger Osiek. With top goalie Schwarzer and Cahill both in treatment for injuries, and Kewell resting out the season, Osiek places his confidence on Reading star Adam Federici to replace Schwarzer. Harper is especially excited to witness the new bet for the goalie position rise above expectations, as he mentions that the team desperately needs a new star after Schwarzer got injured.
Other players joining the team this season include Melbourne Victory luminary Archie Thompson, Neil Kilkenny from Leeds United and a handful of Japan-based frontrunners such as Matthew Spiranovic, Alex Brosque, and Josh Kennedy leading the squad. The new list of players eradicates the chances of past Qantas headliners Nathan Burns and Scott McDonald to play - whose poor performances in the Asian Cup contributed to their Socceroos career fallout.
Andy Harper mentions that coach Osiek is doing his best in making sure that the team faces an optimistic future, and with the new line-up, it looks like victory is just around the corner. Finally, Harper adds that the Qantas Socceroos are in their best shape yet, and their past successes in the Asian Cup and in Germany will give the coach time to see if the new players are a great fit for the team's aim to win it all.
