A Next-Gen ‘Rock Band’ Game Is Reportedly In Development
After being teased with a “Rock Band” survey and five new songs for “Rock Band 3” and “Rock Band: Blitz,” it appears that game developer Harmonix might finally be working on a brand new “Rock Band” game for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The report comes from an article written by the Bloomberg website and was also picked up by IGN.
The Bloomberg reports that the site got the source from an individual who wants to remain unknown due to the matter being private. The site also recalled the popularity of games like “Rock Band” and “Guitar Hero” back in 2005, while also stating that the sales of the games eventually went down and acknowledging the fact that the popularity of the games may have been a quick fad.
Rumours are running amuck for a brand-new “Rock band” game after Harmonix released three new songs in January for the most recent “Rock Band” games. Considering that it had almost been a good 2 years since either “Rock band 3” or “Rock Band: Blitz” had proper DLC support, the release of three new songs was a very curious decision at the time.
More rumours became rampant after Harmonix ran a survey on what fans would like to see in a future “Rock Band” game. The options ranged from making a brand new game for modern consoles to continued DLC support for older “Rock Band” games.
Gaming site Eurogamer pressed Harmonix for possible answers, but were given a vague statement instead. Basically, Harmonix talked about the games still being popular with a big amount of fans, along with mentioning the success of the new songs released as “Rock Band” DLC.
"This passion our fans have shown for Rock Band over the years suggests that rock truly hasn't died, and we've always been clear that we'd love to return to the franchise when the time is right.” This is one of the answers Harmonix gave to Eurogamer.
So whether a new “Rock Band” game is coming or not is still up in the air. However, given the recent teases of DLC songs, the survey and now these reports, the likeliness of a new “Rock Band” game seems more likely than ever before.
