Nexus 5 & Flexible Screens Won’t Come in 2013, But Optimus G2 Will
The long wait for another handset release from LG is over, but if you have been expecting a Nexus 5 on the table, then it's bound to be a disappointment, as LG's latest announcement for releases is focused on the Nexus 4 model in white.
What's more, this does not mean a delay in the development and release of Nexus 5--there's just no Nexus 5 to be rolled out to begin with.
CNet reports that the white Nexus 4 will be the last phone for the Nexus line. Like its black counterpart, the Nexus 4 will pretty much sport the same features, with the lack of 4G LTE connection still unchanged from the other version.
"Nexus 4 White delivers the same Google experience to consumers in a stylish and attractive color option," said LG Mobile CEO Jong-seok Park in a statement to CNet.
The white Nexus 4 will come first be released in Hong Kong on May 29, and will cascade to other markets, including North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East afterwards.
Say goodbye to flexible screens
LG confirms that those who have been waiting for the release of flexible screens this year should have to hold off on those hopes, as it's announced that they won't be coming anytime soon.
Digital Trends reports that Kim stated the technology being too premature for release. This can mean that a release sometime next year or further down the road won't happen, considering that many have already seen the technology at work, particularly at the trade show this month.
Optimus G2 confirmed
But this doesn't mean that LG won't be doing anything progressive this year, as it is now focusing on creating smartphones that will use a different operating, to distinguish itself fully from the Android and the iOS.
Reports point out that this can mean a Firefox OS phone, given the company's partnership with Mozilla.
Know Your Mobile adds that concrete releases can be expected, as a worldwide rollout of the Optimus G2 is already in the works. Some of the reported specs include a 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 13-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, and the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.
"The LG Optimus G2 is coming in Q3, yes," said Wong Kim, LG chief of mobile, to Know Your Mobile. "G2 is going to be something different, something unique, and we have needed to be very creative. There is something unnamed that is a G2."
